The city of Pearl is honored to display a unique gift of a customized rifle with engraved logos of the city that was donated to the police department by the late Bob Payne and his family.
Mr. Payne, who would have been 89 today, was a dedicated Pearl Police Reserve Officer for 25 years and simply loved law enforcement and the city of Pearl.
He was much more than a volunteer officer as he taught continuing education courses to the city and Rankin County Sheriff’s Reserves as an instructor.
Bob’s wife, Mrs. Mary Libby Payne, and his son, Glenn, were on hand for the dedication of the new gun case that proudly hangs in the Pearl Police Department. Mrs. Payne tells us one of Bob’s greatest ways of giving back was to work the Christmas Eve shift to give other officers the opportunity to be home with their families.
Mrs. Payne also presented Mayor Jake Windham with a $5,000 check from the Payne Trust Fund to the Pearl Police Department.
The city of Pearl is forever grateful to Mr. Bob Payne and the entire Payne family.
